Ah, a pivotal scene coming....the bits and pieces are assembling and coming alive. Arithon fans, get ready. (dustbin readied for the sweepings as the fur flies...grin).

Now - the kick off needs a backdrop....so many times, I have the scene, the characters, the dialogue, but - what backdrop to use? What aspect of daily life, or departure from daily life, what "stage" to set the action on, and let it roll from there? It needs to mirror or contrast the mood....so goeth the mulling and stewing around until Just the right thing hops in to sparkle the set.

What picture snapshots of a character did you MOST want to look in on, to kick off a sequence of action.....?

Sometimes research helps (authorial look back on the brain tanning of the deerhides, when Feithan was visited by Asandir....) sometimes the everyday domestic scene (Jieret's sisters, Dania and the bread dough after Arithon's arrival in Deshir)

Now, to try try try to ignore the perfect, breezy STUNNING day outside (ride LATER, promise)

Some possibilities about Arithon that I would not mind reading about:

1. What, exactly, does he do for fun? I mean, aside from driving "poor" Dakar up the wall, which seems to be an ongoing hobby.

2. Does he daydream, and what does he daydream about?

That's it for now, I've been going full tilt in classes all week, with my cats performing sleep deprivation experiments on me. My brain is fried!

Anything involving Arithon and lyranthe is always a great back drop, although it wouldn't be the first time..

Arithon munching on toast and jam for his morning breakfast?

Arithon lazing the day away on a hammock under a tree in the bright sunshine...

Or perhaps Arithon and Davien investigating just how Davien's Eagle might be made and come and go according to it's own will...

Arithon taking a bath..

Must almost be time for Arithon to meet up with Jinesse and Tharrick again methinks.. perhaps lunch with Jinesse and Tharrick?

You had Arithon at toast and jam, with Dame Dawr...and the lyranthe, a few times.

And quite a few things on that list I cannot say, because they're already done and would be spoilers.

How does Arithon have fun...how good is your memory? There have been a few of these, too :-)

I wonder how good your memory is....there have been a few of these, and was a time on page when Dakar kicked Arithon awake with a hangover...do we have a trivia question?

Was this when they were in Vastmark and Arithon was indulging way too much with the local shepherds and Dakar swore off drinking so he could continue scheming against Arithon? The novelty of a sober Dakar kicking a hung over Arithon awake didn't stay with Dakar as long as it should have..

unbelievable- i have read all the books so far ( except traitors knot which i am still reading) at least 4 times each and i CANNOT remember all the details. they are so intricate and interwoven- which is what makes the re reading so much fun! i'm pretty sure it was Vastmark though, when Dakar rudely woke Arithon.

Arithon having fun:

- any interaction with Elaira
- in Vastmark shooting arrows with the shepherds
- around Paravia as Medlir playing his lyranthe under Halliron's tutelage
- kicking a hungover Dakar around
- gazumping Asandir by doing things expressly forbidden.. like going into West End soon after their arrival
- sailing
- sailing
- sailing
- on a boat
- over water
- disrupting the Koriani
...

...missed a few, at least one character-significant...:-)

Arithon...having fun?

- With the red-head problem in TK (albeit dubious)
- Letting Feylind sail
- Kissing / teasing Lirenda
- With Stevien's children / piping in the forests (albieit with other motives)
- Taking the twin's mother on his boat
- iyats in TK
- Eldir's court with sports/chariots
- Conning Talith with Ivor (Arithon at his devious best)!
- Pulling a clansman off his horse after a runt size comment

but I guess it's fair to say that Arithon has had less fun in the "Alliance of Light" for obvious reasons.

Okay, okay, I concede that the man has had fun - it just gets outweighed by the mean things you put him through, Janny! ;^)

So once in a while, letting him cut loose and have a little fun would probably be better than having him picketing your home or office with a huge sign "Wurts unfair to figments of her own imagination!" wouldn't it? :-O

Back to the daydream bit, though. What would he daydream about, aside from getting together with Elaira?

Didn't Arithon have a major drinking session with Erlien and the Clansmen of Shand? I didn't dream it, did I? Definitely time for a re-read.

Arithon with the Vastmark shepardess... that was solace, but must have been fun in the end!

I guess Arithon forcing Lysaer to chase to all ends of Athera is somewhat of Arithon's definition of fun..

Arithon plying his time honoured family history of piracy..

I'm not sure if you mean Davien as a missing character here.. I'm not sure "fun" is how I would characterize that..

His interactions with Lirenda would fall definitely into the fun category.. still waiting for the melody Arithon instilled in Lirenda's personal spell crystal to reach closure and conclusion..

All good times. I also think he had fun with that pirate lady (name escapes me - the one who was killed as his ally) when he was teaching her and crew to sail beyond sight of land. Even though he was tied to a mast for much of it.

He also had fun with Lysaer a fair few times back before the mistwraith struck.

Still missed something signal....:-)

Hmmm, new subchapter starting, need to pick out a cd....the last was Cusco's Apurimac III....what to choose for a little mayhem....(little???!!)

Well, it is little, the big and the bigger stuff's just a little hop into the future, page wize....there are no more places to catch your breath from hereforeward, I think....

Quick!!!! Someone give this woman an Oxygen Tank!!! Pad the floor with cushions and pillows just in case she swoons from all that breathlessness! Put Don on alert with the smelling salts! Go Janny Go!

I think the time he really had fun was when he made the shadow ships for the street kids the night before the coronation fiasco.

Arithon discovering his magic 'was just like music!' in Rauven - loved that scene - you could just picture his young boy's face, all lit up. Beyond fun I think.

How about duelling with Fionn on ice slick ground with Dakar pulling out his beard and Jealot's huntsmen in full clamor?

(I know I had fun - less fun once he injured his hand though.)
