Davien - citrine ring of three interlocking crescents - in Kewar before we finally find out who he is.
I have not found much more than Davien's ring.
I'll add Sethvir: a belted girdle stitched with river pearls and a silk cord for his hair when he welcomes Lysaer to Althain in FP
Traithe's knife would probably count as "ornament".. and his hat with the black and white braid.
Asandir wears silver a cloak with silver foil ribbon in GC when aiding the trees...but this is "scraping the barrel" a bit perhaps...
Traithe's hat band is "patterned silver" (when we first meet Traithe in Althain, Sethvir lets him and his silver hair and hatband are sadly the only "bright things about him")?
Asandir wears rune-patterned bracelets in CotM.
Hmmm... this one is really interesting:
Asandir wears rune-patterned silver bracelets as he's climbing up Mt Rockfell to be the corporate mage when he is locking up the mistwraith. He has to talk to Rockfell and take part in really complex magic. Davien is wearing his ring every time he is a 'corporate' human.
It is the only time we see a corporate Fellowship sorcerer doing magic at Rockfell - the other time Kharadmon 'inhabits' Dakar.
And at the coronation at Etarra Asandir makes Arithon's circlet from the soil: it represents (is?) Arithon's tie to the land as crown prince.
Janny do the Fellowship need the jewellery to help them with important magic (the way they use stones and Ciladis' sun-ring (can't recall the correct name- the one that Luhaine uses when he's alone in Althain and wants to know whats going on))? Seems strange that Davien would need a ring to help him - he cautions Arithon agains being dependent on quartz (early in TK I think). But then again the magic involved in a discorporate sorcerer becoming 'corporate' must be very different.
Sun Dancer - you asked -
No the Fellowship don't need or depend on "jewelry"to accomplish a thing.
The significance of Asandir's runic bracelets and Davien's ring are quite other.
Traithe, being damaged, uses "objects" to focus intent in ceremonial fashion - but the "objects" are only focuses to hold place for a concept - not powerful in and of themselves.
I wonder whether a ring would have a consciousness in the same way a crystal / mountain seems to? Could Davien chat to his ring? Would it reduce loneliness? Would Davien have been "lonely"?
Could a grain of sand communicate with the F7..grains appear to have "Names"?
Is this where the consciousness stops? At the "Name"...?
Oh thank you Janny, that's great to know.
(Now looking forward to much rumination over what purpose the jewellery serves ... and the gap in the Kingdoms)
I'm going to have to fish out CotM and re-read that passage - I think Asandir had just finished talking to the mountain? He'd been off somewhere and left Dakar to climb up on his own - where was he? Anyone remember?
And the winner is
He's the only one who got BOTH Davien's ring (quite obvious, it's mentioned at least three or four times) AND Asandir's silver bracelet with the runes, only seen once in the series.
The other ornaments as bonus bits, the river pearls on Sethvir, and Traithe's silver hatband.
Please e mail me with the address and full name - so I can send you your PRIZE!
I received my copy of Peril's Gate yesterday evening. Thank you.
Looking forward to November. Particularly the moment Stormed Fortress comes throught the door.
