Janny that's interesting, I wonder where HC have distributed them to then, as I haven't seen a trade paperback version on sale at any of the few major sellers in the UK. They could be reserved for smaller independent bookshops possibly I suppose or I could just have been really blind and missed them....

I rang my local bookstore to check, they never got the hardcover in, I suspect Australia might not be getting it, or we are still waiting for a few copies to swim out from the UK.

Sent HC New York a scathing email this morning. I was a little tetchy, and decided to let them have it with both barrels. Likely won't do a bit of good, but it made me feel better to voice my displeasure.

Well UK had the book printed early enough, it surely cannot take that long to send them to the USA that they could not get them unpacked and distributed for a November release, or even December to still get the Christmas sales. And if Australia can get a local printer to do at least the trade paperback, why is it the same cannot be done in the USA? Janny struggles to get the recognition her WoLaS series deserve, and most of the potential readers are in the USA. She needs those Christmas sales.

Won't do a bit of good - HarperCollins NY doesn't publish the book - HC Voyager UK does, and it is distributed in USA/Canada by HarperCollins 360...which feeds the import titles into the same channel that distributes HC Voyager NY, but - a separate office handles the US books and the imports....the NY editorial office that handles the USA published books could care less/has nothing to do with mine.

What I've said: NUMBERS will prod better treatment, all around. Read/review/rate - post your reviews in more than one place. Remark in forums. Post quotes in your social media. Catch up public forums that are 'dead' so they're current. If you have a favorite review blogger, politely encourage them to check out the series...all this will do the series a WORLD of good. This is stuff I CANNOT DO as the author,, but you all can, as readers who enjoy fantasy.

Early, out the gate buzz - tangible TALK about this title - can very well incentivize the staff who are already overloaded to sit up and unpack the books faster.

I appreciate ALL everyone here has done - and trust me, when you make noise - I do see the stats!!! Trouble is, we live in an information cluttered society - when the noise subsides, when the signal goes quiet - so do the stats.

(apologies for flogging a dead horse - I KNOW you're sick of hearing it - so - on the uptick: the better news is the writing I've gotten done, today on Song of the Mysteries.)

Regarding the difficulty of getting the trade paperback edition of Destiny's Conflict in the UK - I made inquiries - looks like this is an Australia only release in this format. UK offers the hardbound, and the mass market paperback (the small format to release in 2018). I have asked if this is the case in the USA, also.

No figuring out why the publisher chooses to break continuity like this; first I've heard of the plan.

By Janny Wurts on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 - 11:48 am: Edit Post

Update: USA gets hardback and mass market formats only.

Australia, NZ, Canada, etc (looks like commonwealth markets) get the Trade Paperback = comment was, 'hopefully folks who want that format can get it from there, and shipping won't be too expensive.'

Price of getting the hardback reinstated, maybe...apologies to collectors for lack of consistency, all these decisions are beyond my control, today's first I've heard of it.

I have to go on writing Song of the Mysteries and COUNT MY BLESSINGS that we have a publisher finishing out the series, period - there have been SO many tripping points where it could have gone down. Given that we WILL HAVE BOOKS, there is always hope there will be a future shift in the series' favor.

Oh I remember the whole publisher uncertainty mid series. I'm very grateful US gets a hardback even delayed and that we know we'll get the last book. Though with self-publishing nowadays, I'd accept no excuse not to have at least an ebook in my greedy hands! ;)

Just delivered: my AmazonUK order for hardcover Destiny's Conflict.

I pulled up Amazon dot com USA to see what it says now.
It's changed.

Now Amazon dot com USA offers copies for sale . They are all imports. UK, Germany, Austria....
The hardcover listing offers that the publication date is September 18, 2017.
Earliest arrival date through US Amazon is October 20, so says Book Depository in its listing as a bookseller at US Amazon.
The other listings have arrival dates later in October or early in November.

My book has just arrived....I can't believe we are at the end.
My heart desires this series to go on forever. Tears will ensure yet again thanks to the brilliance of your writing Janny.

Jeff Johnson, there is another volume following Destiny's Conflict, and THAT is the end.

Destiny's Conflict is the finish of Arc IV, and Song of the Mysteries is the finale, which I am putting into draft, now.

Fantastic to hear Janny, I love how emotional this series has been for me, it's a joy to experience every book.

I just got the following message from Amazon (USA):
"Your new estimated delivery date is: Friday, October 27, 2017 - Wednesday, November 1, 2017.".

By Dina on Thursday, October 19, 2017 - 05:37 am: Edit Post

Me too! I got that email, too! I canít wait to start reading.

By Janny Wurts on Thursday, October 19, 2017 - 08:56 am: Edit Post

Wow -- has you readers' enthusiasm actually gotten the books unpacked quicker? Amazing. This is very happy news!

By Walt on Thursday, October 19, 2017 - 10:10 am: Edit Post

VERY happy news! My e-mail said I'd receive it on Wednesday the 25th. It'll be good to have the actual physical book... I couldn't wait, so I had also purchased the ebook as well. It was so good I devoured it in roughly 48 hours. Oh. My. Heck. What a ride you've taken us on Mistress Talespinner! Amazon revue has been posted! Now to go over and check out the speculation thread for Song of Mysteries...

Another Amazon USA customer here,
and I also received the estimated-delivery-date e-mail.

By Dina on Thursday, October 19, 2017 - 11:40 am: Edit Post

Oh my, and I've just received a delivery confirmation for something completely different (a small piece of technology to make a larger piece of technology work) that has been delayed since June.

This is my day, ladies and gentlemen. Can't wait to read my book by the artificial moonlight of my child's nightlight.

By Janny Wurts on Friday, October 20, 2017 - 08:19 am: Edit Post

BIG BIG THANK YOU to all of the heroes who have posted reviews of this title, out the gate. It is making a HUGE difference; perhaps even, got the US delivery date moved up!

Every time someone posts/adds a comment/fills out a review - even ONE LINE - I can see the results; the stats jump, even to, people trying vol 1.

Keep it coming, folks. It is mattering more than you know.

About four weeks ago, I posted to this thread,
reporting on Destiny's Conflict status

at the Barnes and Noble website.

Now, as then, Barnes and Noble encourages hardcover purchases to make pre-paid orders,
and says the ordered hardcovers will be available on or after January 23, 2018.
The Destiny's Conflict e-book, as marketed by Barnes and Noble, is available right now.

Now, here's the rest of the story.
I just came from the brick-and-mortar branch of Barnes and Noble
where I placed my pre-order, and paid in full for it,
to begin with (about two months ago.)

Into the store I carried:
the Barnes and Noble pre-order paperwork, with the
attached receipt showing that payment has been made in full.
And one hardcover copy of "Destiny's Conflict" as received by me from Amazon.

I went to the counter to the customer service specialist.
I showed her the order, the receipt, and the book.
I pointed out that the ISBN does not agree,
and would she mind checking the order on her system?

The B&N customer service person became genuinely flustered when she ran both ISBN numbers through her computer station.

The ISBN number for the hardcover book in her hand, loaned by me, does not even register in the B&N system, it draws a complete blank.

The ISBN number for the pre-paid order, expected in late January 2018, does come up in the B&N system, and it is ... still expected in late January 2018.

I said soothingly, "You have done all you can," and thanked her for her time.

Wow, Melanie - I wonder if Amazon US realized they were losing sales to overseas, and got the books from another outlet of theirs, not in the USA?

If your ISBN matches the British release....then maybe we'd know.

What a crazy-making irregularity. I will be having a face to face with the US distribution folks in about 2 weeks, and it will be interesting to see what they say.

The ISBN on the hardbound copuy sent to me direct from the London office is: 798-0-00-823002-9

I wonder if that store service specialist at B&N will follow up on your inquiry....

I am, truthfully, finding this whole release mis match could eat my life, so I am concentrating on writing, which is probably not a good thing to do, but (shrug) I've only got so much time, and this last book has to get finished out. Unless and until the new release earns out, it won't pay me another penny. And a lot of LOT of new readers will have to come on board to make that happen. Writing on borrowed time, anyway, so all of the care and pride is going into the work itself.

Your care and persistence and responses here keep me going, no kidding! until that moment when quality wins through.

So I am grateful for your taking the time to point this out. You guys are my boots on the ground! :-)

The copy I received from Amazon US lists 823002-9 as the HB ISBN, and 731391-4 as the TPB ISBN.

By Annette on Friday, October 27, 2017 - 07:05 pm: Edit Post

Janny might have made a typo on her ISBN? The one on my hardcover from the UK is 978-0-00-823002-9.

My understanding was the USA imported their hardcovers from the UK, but Janny would know more about that. Maybe some are coming from Canada?

By Auna on Saturday, October 28, 2017 - 03:48 pm: Edit Post

I have the London USBN on the back of my book I ordered from the US Amazon site. I'm happy to let Amazon pay for the shipping!

By Ypso on Sunday, October 29, 2017 - 10:28 am: Edit Post

Although I got my copy of Destiny's Conflict a few weeks ago, I won't be able to read it yet as I still have to do my re-read of the other books in the series. It probably would have been wise to do this, the re-read, in time for the publication of Destiny's Conflict but, well, that did not happen and now volume 10 - and any review of it by me - will have to wait.

However, for my re-read I ordered the first three volumes in English (so far I have read only the German translations of them) and promise to write reviews for them one by one. I am usually not someone who writes reviews but since Janny explained just how important they are, I will do my bit.

By Jeff on Monday, October 30, 2017 - 11:36 pm: Edit Post

My copy (ordered from Amazon USA) has British and Canadian pricing on the dust jacket. It has the same ISBN as Annette's. I notice, however, that the quotation marks in the text are in US English style ("double"), rather than the 'single' quote style in Initiate's Trial.

I agree with Auna about the shipping!

By Annette on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 - 02:22 am: Edit Post

Well I buy 2 from the Book Depository, which has free shipping any where, and one from my local specialty bookstore, so paid shipping for none of them. But the spitting up of the publishing of the trade paperback caught me unawares. My aussie hardback order ended up a trade paperback as that was all they got in, and my overseas trade paperback had to be changed to a hardcover replacement, since they never got the trade paperback. The library was very impressed with their new WoLaS hardback today. If the librarian who originally accepted the book knew nothing about Janny Wurts or WoLaS, another librarian who rushed over on seeing the book quickly set him to rights.

By Melanie Trumbull on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 - 09:59 am: Edit Post

Ahhhh, libraries.
My library won't take donations. I offered and was refused outright.

The public library branches here are in the business of running second-hand book-selling outlets in order to raise funds for, well, themselves. The only donations they accept are for books that they then re-sell.

By Annette on Wednesday, November 01, 2017 - 01:59 am: Edit Post

Nice to see your libraries do so well, ours are always willing to accept donations of brand new books, especially latest release ones. They only sell off the old ones, or ones they have too many copies of. I doubt ours would make much money off them, they sell them real cheap.

Hint of the audio book on the horizon, although someone seems very optimistic with the release date. Janny-Wurts/9780008284534?

By Sleo on Thursday, November 09, 2017 - 01:41 pm: Edit Post

Annette can you type the url without the question mark on the end? It makes it unclickable.

By Melanie Trumbull on Thursday, November 09, 2017 - 02:17 pm: Edit Post

Sorry, Sleo, but
when I clicked on Annette's link, question mark and all,
it linked straight through --
don't know what else to tell you.

And yes, Annette, how VERY interesting . . .

By Ypso on Thursday, November 09, 2017 - 02:41 pm: Edit Post

My first reaction was similar to Melanie's but it may be a good idea to take the information on this site with a grain of salt. Because there is also an alleged audio book of Initiate's Trial listed:
And the publication date for this one was October 2011.

By Sleo on Thursday, November 09, 2017 - 03:03 pm: Edit Post

Yes, Melanie, I realized that by clicking on this link. It was in my email about the post that it didnít work. My most humble bumbling apology!
