I haven't read Faded Sun yet but I got the book on Trys's recommendation. It looks great but I keep getting something else to read and then keep waiting on it. I want to read Destroyer first now before Faded Sun. Is Destroyer a good read Sandtiger? Hope their's some action and fast pace in it. Bren is such a great hero. He stands out to me and seems not like the others she's done
I forgot my period at the end of that sentence. lol
It's a very good read. (All of her books are). It isn't all that fast paced, but it is fascinating to read. And besides, how can you go wrong with Bren?
You are right about the aliens being truly alien. I enjoyed the POV shifts in that regard - they gave the book the most intriguing balance to it.
I've only read the first of the Chanur books, which I thought was very good. I plan to read the others when I find them.
I know I can't go wrong with Bren lol grin back. He's a favorite like Arithon is. Can't have too many favorite heroes.
I agree, Cheryl, I have a soft spot for Bren, too.
I tend to like most of Cherryh's heroes.
Has anyone read much Sheri Tepper, and if so can someone advise me on which books should be read first. I recently picked up a bunch of hers and some seem to be set in the same universe but are not part of actual series, and I have no idea where to start. Books I have are:
Grass, The Gates to Womans Country, Sideshow, A Plague of Angels, Raising the Stones, Beauty, Sideshow, The Fresco, The Visitor, The Companions, and Blood Heritage.
Oh, and if anyone likes Urban Fantasy, I've just read War for the Oaks by Emma Bull and really enjoyed it. It's a light read, nothing too deep, but fun, interesting and likeable characters
Partners of Necessity = start of an addiction.
I finished this early this morning and then waited for the bookstore to open to buy the next 3 Plan B, Pilot's choice & I dare. Great strong willed characters with quite a bit of personality. Finished Plan B just now as well.
A wonderful and delightful story called 'Heaven' by Ian stewart and Jack Cohen is a book I highly recommend!! It was very different from anything I have ever read before. It is a sci-fi genre but very readable. One of the main characters is Second Best Sailor. It's a story of his beings searching for a haven to escape being pressured into a galaxy wide religion known as 'Cosmic Unity'. The authors, one is a scientist and one is a math professor, so I was very ambivalent about how readable a story it could be. But these guys are great. The humor is tongue-in-cheek and the drama is very easy to follow. Happy reading people!!
Grass, Raising the Stones, and Sideshow is a loose trilogy and should be read in that order. The rest are not part of any series that I could identify when reading them. Beauty is a most unusual retelling of the Sleeping Beauty story. Of the rest I have but have not read The Fresco, The Companions, and The Visitors. The Gate to Women's Country and A Plague of Angels were both quite good.
Have you all heard of 'The Edge Chronicles'? It's a fantasy series that looks pretty good with illustrations and maps. It comes highly recommended by my 10 year old nephew, Cody. And since he is so adorable I am recommending it to you. I know I am going to read it! [smiling at ya}
