How badly do you want a BRAND NEW ATHERA SHORT STORY?

Janny Wurts Chat Area: General Discussion: How badly do you want a BRAND NEW ATHERA SHORT STORY?
By Janny Wurts on Thursday, May 26, 2016 - 07:43 pm: Edit Post

Adrian Collins of Grimdark Magazine is creating an anthology, and - there could be a new Atheran Short Story IF THE PROJECT MEETS ITS KICKSTARTER STRETCH GOAL.

Here is the link announcing the kickstart, and detailing the story content. e-an-anthology-of-antagonists

You want it (I sure do!!!) make it happen, people.

Are you curious, wanting to know why and how the King's Tower fell at Ithaomon on the day Marin Eliathe was murdered? OR - who were the instigators behind Davien's machinations that led to the rebellion - OR - do you have some other preference to voice - an antagonist's role you want illuminated? Shout it out here, and if the stretch goal admits my story to the line up, you might, just might, get your wish!!

I notice the project is funded now, hopefully they get the extra $6,400au to reach the stretch goal I am so interested in getting to read. 20 days to go.

It would not look as far to go in US dollars.

By Clansman on Friday, June 24, 2016 - 07:56 am: Edit Post

Just put in my 2 cents, so to speak. The stretch goal is in reach, folks, less than $6,000 AUD, or $4,000 USD, to go to guarantee Janny's contribution to the anthology!

Let's put it over the top!

By Annette on Friday, June 24, 2016 - 08:08 pm: Edit Post

The link to the kickstarter page, if anyone wants to back the project and help try and reach the stretch goal of a new Atheran short story. n-anthology-of-an

There is still the ebook, paperback or normal hardcover packages available. The ebook you do not have to worry about postage, if you are on a budget or do not live in the USA. If you want a second paperback at a slightly cheaper price, you can order a second as an add on, the postage on the second book will also be cheaper.

By Annette on Sunday, June 26, 2016 - 08:00 pm: Edit Post

They have reached the stretch goal for the interior art ($28,100AUD) I see and will soon seem likely to reach 5the 00 backers goal and the Second Year Bundle Deal from Grimdark Magazine.

$4789au and 17 days to go to get that short story from Janny.

By Annette on Monday, June 27, 2016 - 06:56 pm: Edit Post

They have reached the 500 backers goal and currently have raised $29,305aud only $4195aud to go to get a new short story from Janny.

Still 16 days to go, for as little as $12aud you could help contribute to the project and get at least a new ebook to read, they need to reach that specific stretch goal to include a new Atheran short story.

By Clansman on Monday, June 27, 2016 - 07:42 pm: Edit Post

Maybe we need a contest? Annette and Clansman the only posters, with the promise of an Atheran short story under $5K away?

By Annette on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 - 12:04 am: Edit Post

Under 5k now. They read the news, they are just all lurking in the shadows.

The book will not be mass produced, so you have to be a backer (or contributor) to actually get a physical copy.

By Clansman on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 - 08:22 am: Edit Post

Under $4K as of this morning...$3,634.00 at 9 a.m. EDT.

By DarthJazy on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 - 01:49 pm: Edit Post

How much do you need to donate to get a physical copy?

By Clansman on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 - 02:07 pm: Edit Post

DJ, click the link in Annette's 2nd post, and all the details are there. $12 AUD for an eBook, $30 AUD for a paperback and eBook, and $50 AUD for a hardback, paperback and eBook, plus some other bonuses.

In American dollars, that's about $9, $21, and $35.

By Annette on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 - 03:33 am: Edit Post

Well if you do not live in the USA it will cost you $75aud for a paperback. Because the postage is $45aud. But the postage is the same for the hardback, so the hardback was the better offer at $50aud. Unfortunately I struggle to hang on to a hardback so went for the paperback, I took the add on option of a second paperback. As the backer levels are reached we get a few extra digital goodies.

If you live in the USA or Canada, postage is cheaper, they are having it printed up in the USA.

By Annette on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 - 03:50 am: Edit Post

And of course as they get more money and reach their stretch goals, they offer more physical content, next in line at $30,800AUD is a short story by Mark Alder, Janny's contribution is the stretch goal after that one.

I really, really want an extra Atheran short story to read

By Annette on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 - 12:43 pm: Edit Post

Bit of a jump, they have raised $30,104aud now with 527 backers Mark Alder will be getting excited with only another $696 to go before his story gets included.

Still another $3396aud to get a new short story from Janny.

By Annette on Thursday, June 30, 2016 - 05:24 am: Edit Post

They should have had more of those Head Honcho packages. All the special rewards are snapped up now.

533 backers have pledged $30,291aud with 14 days to go. $3209aud to go before Janny needs to consider what interesting, dark bit of Athera's past she will send in.

By Annette on Saturday, July 02, 2016 - 03:02 am: Edit Post

They have reached Financial Stretch Goal #2 which adds a short story by Mark Alder, Janny's contribution is Financial Stretch Goal #3.

Currently 559 backers have pledged $30,925aud with 12 days to go. Might be a close thing to get that extra $2575 in less than a fortnight for Janny's contribution. Evil is a Matter of Perspective might be published before Destiny's Conflict, if Janny's story makes it in, we would have something WoLaS related to read while waiting.

By Annette on Monday, July 04, 2016 - 06:50 pm: Edit Post

After a bit of a jump, which could be all those WoLaS fans wanting a chance to read a new story the project is currently at

$32,017(aud) with 591 backers and 9 days to go, we only need another $1483 for Janny's short story to be included.

Next goal within reach are the ebooks below.
600 Backers: Into the Mist by Lee Murray and SNAFU: Survival of the Fittest from Cohesion Press.

By Annette on Tuesday, July 05, 2016 - 08:37 pm: Edit Post

I thought there were a few of these posts, just realized Janny posted the opening post 9 times. She really wants to do that short story!

And as Clansman already mentioned in one of the other threads we now have only $602(aud) to go with 8 days remaining. They reached the 600 backers goal.

By Annette on Wednesday, July 06, 2016 - 05:20 am: Edit Post

Less than 500 to go now.

I think Davien and his machinations that started that rebellion off would be nice, fit with the book and might give us some clues about Davien and Morriel's motivations and thoughts.

I am still real curious about Marin Elaithe's murder, but suspect that might not be as exciting.

By Dorothy on Wednesday, July 06, 2016 - 01:44 pm: Edit Post

Just donated and realised the effect of the referendum result on the exchange rate :-( Does anyone know how to log out of Kickstart? I can't find the button. Or isn't there one? Help!

By Dorothy on Wednesday, July 06, 2016 - 01:51 pm: Edit Post

Found it! How did I miss a big blue button like that? Who's contributing next? :-)

By Gary Coady on Wednesday, July 06, 2016 - 01:56 pm: Edit Post

Less than 400 left :-)

The interesting thing about the murder of Marin Eliathe is a view into Second Age history, before the arrival of humanity. Another glimpse at Paravian viewpoints and motivations might be interesting... or was the antagonist actually Paravian?

By Annette on Wednesday, July 06, 2016 - 06:29 pm: Edit Post

Only $126(aud) to go now, must be all those WoLaS fans wanting their new short story.

I am suspecting the fall of the kings tower was something to do with Fate, it had to fall, so someone later could raise it again. So possibly our 'antagonist' was Paravian, rather than same stray methurien who managed to get in and assassinate the king. We have the long wait for the last book, maybe Janny could get that one and a few others published in between?

By Annette on Thursday, July 07, 2016 - 01:18 am: Edit Post

They reached the stretch goal to include Janny's new short story and currently have pledges of $33,514(aud) and 620 backers.

The next stretch goal is reached at $39,000(aud) the author pay bump, might be a bit far away that one with only a week left. The 700 backers goal, would be the next in sight, might reach that one.

By Janny Wurts on Thursday, July 07, 2016 - 09:14 am: Edit Post

Thank you to EVERYONE who's helped spread the word, and backed this project. I am very pleased and excited! And the work will be seen by many new readers, one hopes, a great opportunity.

Keep backing - there's another author (Peter Orullian) hoping to get in, and that pay bump - honestly, I don't know of any author right now who doesn't need it sorely.

I am off, now, to dig into entering the changes to Chapter 9 set; the deadline for this story is AFTER the book gets turned in - so no worries there. It'll be the turn in party, then on to work on it.

Start posting your suggestions for what aspect of the world you want illuminated!

By Mark Stephen Kominski on Thursday, July 07, 2016 - 05:26 pm: Edit Post

626 backers now. I'm a little late to the party, but not hopelessly so. ;-)

By Dorothy on Friday, July 08, 2016 - 03:54 pm: Edit Post

Better late than never, Mark Stephen ;)

I am doing a brief AMA at 7:20 EDT in support of the kick starter on Grimdark Magazine's FB page - DO STOP BY and make things lively (adjust for your time zone) rimdarkfiction%2F

By Janny Wurts on Saturday, July 09, 2016 - 03:28 pm: Edit Post

CORRECTION! The time is at 8:20 EDT!!!

By Dorothy on Saturday, July 09, 2016 - 05:37 pm: Edit Post

One of the few who don't have a facebook account. Hope it went well Janny.

By Annette on Sunday, July 10, 2016 - 02:53 am: Edit Post

I almost missed the AMA, was running around doing other things while trying to work out exactly what time it was on. It was NOW, had almost missed it! Just said the first thing that popped into my head.

Was not really expecting Janny to give that away, but had to try. The next book is not that far away now, and at least Janny confirmed, we will finally learn more about Enithen Tuer. Including how old she was when she died.

By Janny Wurts on Sunday, July 10, 2016 - 01:21 pm: Edit Post

I hope it went well, too. I should have realized it was Annette popped the Enithen Tuer question. You have no idea....

Anybody who's a contributor to r/fantasy, they are doing their vote for the underrated list right now.

Qualifier for underrated: under 3000 ratings on GoodReads. Good time to put light on authors you love who could use some love! That list does outreach to new readers.

By Annette on Sunday, July 10, 2016 - 08:30 pm: Edit Post

I have been patiently waiting to hear more about Enithen Tuer's past since the first book, when we saw her in Erdane, brimming with curiosity I was to know what she was doing there and how long she had been there. That was before we found out more interesting aspects of her life. Knew you would not answer any obvious spoilers on that subject, thought I might have got away with an age, had to try. :-)

I am expecting her to be OLD, with a Name like that.

By Janny Wurts on Monday, July 11, 2016 - 11:24 am: Edit Post

On the kickstarter - if you are interested and have not backed, yet - the stretch goal for the author pay hike is in range....(author fingers crossed on this one!)

By Clansman on Monday, July 11, 2016 - 01:22 pm: Edit Post

Wow. The next Backers goal is also in sight, as only 20 are needed to reach 700, which gives us all more goodies...

I like goodies.

By Clansman on Monday, July 11, 2016 - 02:24 pm: Edit Post

I posted a thread on the sffchronicles in General Discussion regarding the anthology, and also in Janny's sub-forum there.

Hopefully that helps generate some interest, as the members of the Chrons seem to really like dark fantasy, iirc.

By Annette on Monday, July 11, 2016 - 06:47 pm: Edit Post

They have reached the 700 backer goal now, and have raised $36,276(aud)

Only 68hrs to go, the next financial goal of $39,000 and a pay rise for the authors might just get in yet. Peter Orullian's short story is the financial goal after that one at $41,700.

By Annette on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 - 01:15 am: Edit Post

Janny got her pay rise I see, next goal is 800 backers, then hopefully they reach enough to include Peter Orullian's story.

Currently the figures are
792 backers
37hrs to go.

By Clansman on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 - 07:57 am: Edit Post

All the backers goals have now been achieved, and they are only $2,200 from having the story from Peter Orullian. After that, there's only the "2 additional authors" at 44,500.00. I really hope they get Peter Orullian in, since it is so close.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a 900 and 1000 backers added in the final push. I hope my posts on the Chrons might have helped a bit. Only a few replies, but they are very favourable, and it has over 50 views in one day in General Discussion, and 77 in Janny's sub-forum. Regardless, the Kickstarter campaign sure took off in the last 24 hours!

By Janny Wurts on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 - 08:58 am: Edit Post

Thank you backers, every single one - the pay bump will be a frank godsend; I have no idea how shaky the Brit pound will be - and in a year with a turn-in for Destiny's Conflict, I do not need to be kicked in the having the story pay a little bit more is just absolutely WONDERFUL.

I am now shouting out for Peter Orullian because I cannot imagine being SO CLOSE! with the deadline rushing up so fast - but I think and hope he will make it!

Thanks, also, for any and every one of you who posted news of this anthology around the internet - it all makes such a difference.

I now return to cross checking Tenth set; and I have a pending surprise. So stay tuned.

By Annette on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 - 08:21 pm: Edit Post

I like surprises :-)

I think we are going to be in suspense right up to the end watching to see if Peter Orullian's story gets in. Hopefully Peter will be waking up to some good news. They might also reach 900 backers yet, they seem to be still working on what goodies we would get for that.

By Annette on Thursday, July 14, 2016 - 05:22 am: Edit Post

They have surpassed Peter Orullian's stretch goal and with still 9 hours to go they might yet reach the next stretch goal, with a steady trickle of new pledges. Currently they have

887 backers
9hs left

So we get some more goodies added for 900 backers soon I should think. Next stretch goal is at $44,500(aud)
