Anyone wants to see what my office looked like 5 minutes after turn in, I just posted pics on FB and Twitter.

I will admit I laughed when I saw that picture

This series has been part of my life for nearly half my life now. These characters have become so important to me, and the fate of Athera too. I can't believe this is the penultimate book - the beginning of the end! How amazing a journey it has been as a reader.
In that time we've gone from the print age to the digital age in novels - reading them on my device has actually changed how I read the books - with different sections highlighted as the pages adjust to the font or space I select. There are bits I have missed and new insights into characters that I've not seen in the previous readings. New lovely sentences to admire, that perhaps I skipped over as I followed the action on the pages. Recently one struck me - after the Kralovir scenes - of the light bleeding out of the sky, staining the clouds red. Atmospheric, beautifully descriptive and pertinent because it's appropriately ghoulish. Those scenes always slightly nauseate me - and I think slightly more, rather than less, each time.
I donated my books to a local library in Cape Town before I returned to the UK, so hopefully they have recruited a few more fans.
Enjoy your break! Looking forward to reading it.

Thank you, Roisin, new readers are needed very very very much!!!

No word on schedule for release, yet, I'm told the meeting for that will be next week, hopefully I will have some idea, by middle of the week. Need to know anyway to schedule in the art.

Writing, meantime.

Many congratulations, Janny! I'm so looking forward to the next installment....time for me to go back and start the re-reads :-).

This morning I honestly can not decide what is killing me more, Waiting for the next Star Wars Installment or Mrs. Wurts book in the Wars of Light and Shadow GAH!

By Janny Wurts on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 - 10:28 am: Edit Post

Man, if everybody in the world had this problem, my bills would be paid!

Waiting for word - e mail is blank. Meant to be a schedule meeting, today, but, so far, I have zero news. I'll be back in a flash if that changes.

By Dorothy on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 - 12:59 pm: Edit Post

Fingers and toes crossed along with eyes! All I can think is that they are blown away by it!

By Janny Wurts on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 - 04:30 pm: Edit Post

Meeting held; there has been talk, nothing concrete to report, yet.

By DarthJazy on Thursday, August 25, 2016 - 10:12 am: Edit Post

I love you Janny but your publishers are killing me over here.

By Janny Wurts on Thursday, August 25, 2016 - 10:39 am: Edit Post

Because?

I am surviving on writing two short stories, due very quick.

The moment I have word that's concrete, I will post; so far, still talk.

By Annette on Thursday, August 25, 2016 - 12:23 pm: Edit Post

I agree, the suspense of waiting for that publishing date seems a lot worse than usual.

By Janny Wurts on Friday, August 26, 2016 - 09:29 am: Edit Post

Set pub date: Sept 7, 2017
Just in this morning.

By Dina on Friday, August 26, 2016 - 09:34 am: Edit Post

Yay! This is so exciting! Congratulations, Janny! Looking forward to it!

(Did I use enough exclamation points?!)

Fantastic- but I will whine a bit- a whole year to wait???

By Janny Wurts on Friday, August 26, 2016 - 12:43 pm: Edit Post

Yes, a whole year to wait. I don't choose the pub date, and we are lucky: it could have been longer.

The advantages: we have a WHOLE YEAR to build new readership and also to chalk up (when they get the page set) advance orders. ADVANCE ORDERS determine the press run, and all sorts of backing/momentum -in fact, they are critical.

I can't stress this enough: that reader enthusiasm growing the numbers adds impetus to everything else you want (and I want).

Rushed production happens because the driver is PROFITS - it costs HUGE!!! to shove a book out fast. The selected date was chosen because THE STAFF HAS THE TIME TO PUT ALL THEIR FOCUS ON THIS TITLE, undistracted by a bigger ticket byline.

So - you want (in the future) more preferential treatment, backing, an audio book, more visibility - readership has to be there and GROW.

I am lucky; grateful; still here! And we are seriously on track for production. My plan (because yeah, A YEAR!) Produce glorious art, two shorts that tie in for outreach, and a definite effort to market ahead to make this the best and most significant success and release EVER!!! Lots of time to bring new readership on board!

Starting next week: To Ride Hell's Chasm won the r/fantasy group poll on GoodReads - that group WILL be kicking off discussion in the GoodReads r/fantasy group NEXT WEEK - it is the September Book of the Month and the group read begins, ON SEPT 1st. There will be threads going up including a NON SPOILER topic and old reader enthusiasm there can REALLY jump up the number of participants. The start up for this discussion is a HUGE and opportune moment - and new readers will jump in if they see folks commenting who loved the book! GoodReads forums are a READER THING and I cannot do this, myself. (There may be an author Q & A at the very end, but that's on the downbeat - the start of the discussion and a lively interaction with the readers on the book's themes - THAT is the critical moment).

People who try Hell's Chasm are positioned to like Mistwraith....People who liked Empire, but can't hack the shift - Hell's Chasm is the PERFECT entry point - this is a HUGE opportunity in a forum that, last I looked was pretty darn big - 2800!!! members. So that discussion being lively can become a HUGE boost.

ANYBODY can go to the forum at r/fantasy at Reddit and post a new thread LISTING THAT RELEASE DATE, now it's final, go forth...that forum has 100,000 members so starting a post thread with the release and your reason for loving the series --- rate it, review it, talk it up online!

Yes, a year. I plan to make it an opportunity that COULD put this series, seriously, on the map. It needs to be SEEN and get on the rec lists, the best series lists, all that.

Welcome to help spread to joy! :-)

Sept 7, 17 - lots of chance to roll that snowball bigger.

If I can focus on WRITING and not MARKETING - we'll have Song of the Mysteries that much faster. :-)

Right now: pleased as punch we have a publisher behind this release, AND - it's gonna be handled in synch with all the prior volumes! You'll be getting the story I crafted, and that is, right this second HUGE.

Celebrate the opportunity. I am.

I have been trying to get my Library to buy the entire series. Alas with limited budget they are staying more with patterson and his ilk. I will become more annoying and I know I have got atleast a few interested in your series and they are starting to request the Library carry your titles

By Julie on Friday, August 26, 2016 - 03:51 pm: Edit Post

Please don't get me wrong- I am really excited for you. Please take my words as a testament to how much I enjoy your writing.

By Janny Wurts on Friday, August 26, 2016 - 04:17 pm: Edit Post

Julie - not upset with you!! Never that. Don't even think it.

Just hoping folks may wish to help build momentum during the wait, so it can become a great opportunity.

Hi Janny,

Congratulations on finishing and the pub date. That's great news.

I did want to know if that date is international or US only? Are Harper Collins still publishing for you in Australia? And if so, are they on board with that same date?

Regards,

CJ

By Gill on Friday, August 26, 2016 - 04:23 pm: Edit Post

Brilliant. So happy, a year will seem long but worth the wait. Have enjoyed all your books, Whitesorm, Empire, Chasm as well as Mistwraith of course.
Hope like Izzy that we in the UK see your book the same time as the US

By Janny Wurts on Friday, August 26, 2016 - 04:46 pm: Edit Post

The worldwide publisher is HarperCollins Voyager UK, and the likelihood is that this pubdate is for English language publication, world wide.

When it's one office/one publisher in charge, everything's smooth.

Just FYI, HC London, Voyager DOES also have Song of the Mysteries under contract; so it's this boat, all the way through.

By Izzy on Friday, August 26, 2016 - 05:16 pm: Edit Post

Ah, great news.

Are they also publishing an eBook of it? I fully intend to buy the physical book, but if it comes out on Kindle even 1 day before, I'll buy that first :-)

Regards,

CJ

I don't know anything more, yet, than this is the 'official publication date'

By the way - news - for you all who use KOBO - Sorcerer's Legacy is ON SALE! over this weekend. Fifty percent off!!!
The PROMO CODE: 50READ

Spread the word!

While I am happy we finally got a publishing date and September is a good time of year, I am still disappointed HarperCollins could not fit it in to an earlier time slot. For taking so long I hope they intend to publish a hard cover version as well.

I pre-ordered my trade paperback version months ago at the Book Depository, I have not ordered the kindle version yet, but it can be pre-ordered.
https://www.amazon.com/Destinys-Conflict-Sword-Canon-Shadow-ebook/dp/B00HPLP6BK# nav-subnav

They would not have updated that publishing date yet from the estimated one.

Yay! I have been reading these since 1996. I was 14 and fell totally in love with Arithon. It's been a solid love affair ever since. My husband knows he is the 2nd man in my life ^_^

Super excited. Also this gives me time to get a friend to start them. He's been umming and ahing for a while.

Man I'm going to talk about these books so much to people. If there's any UK specific things that can be done to help push them I'd love to know.

UK specific things: ANY online book seller: check their sites. If the books have no reviews and ratings, do that, it assists other readers.

Book chats and forums ONLY if you have time - these places are communities, and flying in there to push a title when you are not a contributing member backfires. But if you like to discuss books, if you are willing to take the time to scope out a group that discusses books and join in discussion about ALL the books you like - these are superb outreach.

Joelle, if this interests you, email me privately and I will provide you with a list, each forum and community has its own personality, they are all different, and the people who are regulars know each other. Precautionary note: all of these communities consider flyby posters who don't interact, but just come in to push a title, they react badly and consider such people spammers. So the single post fly by is best done on a review site, not a discussion forum.

Participating in the Hell's Chasm discussion starting up Sept 1 would be huge.

I have a FB page and a twitter account, so participating there also grows awareness. (and you get to see pictures!)

ANY talk and bringing in new readers - that's such a gift! If the books are not shelved in the bookshop or library, then the ONLY way they get seen is through readers' drawing notice. Pure gold, and I thank you all for that!

Your support (every one of you) means so much.

Hi Janny:

Been spreading the word by handing out my copies of your books and asking them to be passed on to others. This is the only online forum I participate in. A generational thing!

By Joelle Ullathorne on Sunday, August 28, 2016 - 05:36 pm: Edit Post

Hi Janny. I shall drop you an email. I've been wanting to get involved with some book groups so this seems like the perfect time/opportunity. I'll check out online sellers too. I think I'm also going to contact my local library. We have an epic system so if I can get your books in there that would be great. It's how I started. Took Curse of the mist wraith on holiday with me 😃

Hi Janny!
It has been FAR too long since I was last on your page. I get updates in my email... I can't tell you how delighted I am to see a publish date for Destiny's Conflict. Having loved your books for nearly 30 years, especially WOLAS, this is a major milestone and just makes me so excited about 2007. A sweetshop year! So much to look forward to. Can't wait to see the artwork for this new book and I am counting down the weeks until I hold it in my hands :-) Cheers! xxx
